Resources for Parents

Digital Learning

IXL

This website requires a paid subscription, but it’s a great way to supplement your child’s learning in Math and English from home.

Math Prodigy

This website turns math practice for your child into a game. You can set the level of their learning too.

Read Theory

Endless reading comprehension packages with questions already set to your readers level are available at this website.

Typing Club

It’s 2024 yet sometimes educational programs forget to update the way our kids’ learn. In terms of essential work place skills, your child can directly benefit from improving their typing skills in a way that involves a game on this website. This is so much more engaging than the programs many of us grew up with.

Quill

This interactive website can drastically improve your child’s writing ability. It requires a bit more of a hands on approach from the parent in terms of setting up content, but, like the sites above, it can really work wonders because it provides immediate feedback.

Scratch

Building foundational computer coding skills in a kid friendly way is a great way to increase a child’s sense of engagement with their learning. This website integrates a surprising amount of transferable knowledge and skills, ranging from mathematics to design work. This is listed last, but if you are looking to use this with your child, I’d actually recommend using this one first to grab their interest.

***Tutoring or devices can be too expensive for some, but a public library computer and a 15 minute per day routine using a variety of these websites outside of school can really help a learner improve their foundational literacy and numeracy knowledge and skills.
